Hitting the snooze button that is. I've been there, you've been there, we've all been there. In the ideal world, getting ready is calming and therapeutic. In the real world, it's a race to the finish line. Even if your time is limited, getting ready should be a positive part of your day, not a daunting task. If you feel good, you look good and if you look good, you feel good!
These tips help speed up your morning routine without sacrificing the 'feel good, look good' mentality.
1) Cold Water - Nothing says wake up like a few splashes of cold water! Not only does the chill switch your brain from warm and cozy to go-time, but the cold actually restricts blood vessels which slows blood flow, reducing any redness or puffiness.
2) Skin Care - A good skin care routine will keep your skin healthy and reliable. Exfoliate weekly, cleanse nightly and moisturize daily. For extra TLC use a serum each day (before you moisturize) and masks weekly to keep your skin hydrated and happy. Happy skin requires less makeup and less makeup encourages happy skin - it’s a positive cycle.
3) Minimal Makeup - Minimal makeup with high impact is everyone’s best weapon. Learn which products work for you, keep your products and tools clean (and organized) and let’s get to it.
Skip the foundation. Instead, use a peachy under-eye concealer to correct and brighten and a yellow toned concealer to cover any spots. Fingers work best to blend; the heat from your fingers seamlessly pushes the product into your skin. Use any leftover concealer on your fingers to cover redness or veins on your eye lids.
Full brows are a quick and easy way to bring attention to your eyes without wearing any eye makeup. Brows are to eyes what curtains are to windows; a defining, expressive accessory.
Curl your lashes and apply mascara. A good curl opens the eyes while mascara gives definition -double win!
Let your lips do the talking. A popping pout instantly brightens the face and dresses up an outfit. Plus, lipstick is the easiest item to throw in your purse for touchups. Got an event after work? Change up your colour! The beauty of minimal makeup is that you can add/switch it up as the day goes! It’s adaptable.
Rosy cheeks are a sign of youth - no matter your age, blush is flattering. You can keep the blush natural or match your lipstick with a softer hue. Blush keeps you from looking washed out, especially when wearing a bold lip.
Ponytails! Having your hair pulled back instantly opens the face (and if you pull it tight enough you can get a mini face lift ;) ).
Look in the mirror, tell yourself you look great (positive thoughts feed a healthy mind) and go conquer your day!
