The perfect lipstick match that is. Valentine's Day is around the corner and so I am going to take this opportunity to talk about my true love, lipstick. Lipstick is the first beauty product I ever experimented with. What began as innocent… mischievous** curiosity ended in a stern briefing and an understanding that lipstick is for wearing, not eating. Three year old me was hooked. My mother had basically given me the tools I needed to smear stuff all over my face and NOT get in trouble. Mischief aside, I recognized lipstick as a powerful weapon. Lipstick can be worn alone as an effortless beauty gesture, or as a deliberate statement. It can be the complimentary feature to a killer eye, or to an entire outfit. You can design your whole look around your lipstick, or you can use it as the final touch before you head out the door and conquer the day. There is a lipstick out there for everyone and I encourage you to go out and find it.
Keeping with the Valentine’s Day Spirit, let’s talk pinks and reds. Here are some of my favourites.
The Body Shop Lip and Cheek Velvet Stick:
I love this lip balm! This product claims it adjusts its colour depending on skin tone. It looks like a dark purple, almost black product in the applicator, but turns into a pinky/berry colour once you rub it in to your lips. This product gives the most beautiful hint of colour, is moisturizing and comfortable to wear and is extremely buildable! This is a great every day product, and is especially great for those who are a bit shy of colour on their lips.
This is a super fun colour. It is a true bright pink! It is a creamsheen formula, which means it has a creamy texture that glides right on the lips. If you love your pinks, this is the colour for you!
Stila acai crush Lip and Cheek Stain:
Lip stains are a great choice for long nights filled with eating and drinking. These ones from Stila 'stain' your lips with a gel-like texture leaving a nice berry hue on your lips.
This is the brightest of the bunch (also the one I am wearing above). The colour is halfway between a hot pink and a red (best of both worlds). While it has a matte finish, it is not drying at all and feels really nice on the lips. This is the type of colour that will add life to your face and brighten your smile!
Gotta love the Kate Moss collection from Rimmel. This is the only orange-based (warm toned) colour on my list. If you have olive skin or very yellow-based skin this colour will look great on you. This is a creamy lipstick with excellent pigmentation. It has a deep colour without being vampy - perfect for those who want a statement red lip without being too flashy. And, just to add one more thing to the list, it smells like cherries:)
If you received a birthday present from Sephora in the last year or so, you have this colour. Unlike a lipstick, this Velvet Matte Lip Pencil resembles a crayon and is filled with a creamy, smooth product. The colour is not too bright and not too dark, giving a perfect, subtle red lip.
Revlon Black Cherry
The name says it all. This dark, purple/red lipstick is smooth, easy to wear and begs to be noticed. It can be applied with your finger for a hint of colour, or straight from the tube for the full effect. Simply put, it is a gorgeous colour that will definitely make a statement.
There you have it, a Valentine’s themed list to help you find the perfect lipstick for this Valentine’s Day. There are countless options out there, so it is just about finding the right one, or ten.
